Dozens of students hospitalised after suspected gas leaks in 2 Kowloon schools

Dozens of students have been hospitalised after a suspected gas leak affected their colleges in Kowloon.

Ming Pao reports that at approximately 1pm, staff at HKMA David Li Kwok Po College on Hoi Wang Road reported a suspected unidentified gas leak to police. Firefighters were sent to the scene to investigate the suspected leak, while students who complained about feeling unwell were sent to hospital for examination, and provided with oxygen masks. 

Local reports vary on the exact number of students hospitalised from HKMA; Ming Pao gives the number as 12, whereas other reports, such as from Headline Daily and Oriental Daily report that it is 30 and 52, respectively.  

Further down Hoi Wang Road, students at Yaumati Catholic Primary School were hospitalised for reportedly experiencing similar symptoms.

Reports from Ming Pao, Oriental Daily and Commercial Radio Hong Kong have given the number of students hospitalised from the primary school as 12, while Headline Daily reports the figure as 21.

Police officers and firefighters are also investigating Olympic Station and Hoi Fai Road, after receiving public reports of a gas leak.

Restaurants in the area are refraining from using gas at the moment until the issue has been resolved, and some roads have also been cordoned off.

A spokesperson for Towngas stated that they received complaints about suspected gas leaks in Hoi Fai Road, Tai Kok Tsui and Charming Garden apartment complex in Mong Kok. At the time of writing, the spokesperson said no leaks had yet been found, but checks are still ongoing.
