More than a dozen passengers were injured this morning when a green minibus flipped on its side after colliding with a van in Sha Tin.

According to Apple Daily, the accident happened about 6am near the intersection of Tai Chung Kiu Road and Fo Tan Road.

The Route 65A green minibus — traveling between Wong Nai Tau and Sha Tin New Town Centre — was almost full when it was struck by the van, which was severely damaged by the impact.

At least 14 people, including the drivers of both vehicles, were hurt. Photos show the injured passengers waiting for emergency services at the side of the road, which is strewn with glass and debris.

According to Apple Daily, there were at least six male and six female minibus passengers, including one secondary school girl. The van driver was a 73-year-old man surnamed Bo.

The 60-year-old minibus driver surnamed Hui told the newspaper that when he approached the traffic light at the intersection, it was green. He told the newspaper he continued to move forward when the van suddenly rushed out from his left.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, and have not ruled out the possibility of one of the drivers running a red light.

Part of the westbound section of Tai Chung Kiu road was temporarily blocked off after the crash, leading to traffic congestion in the area, Ming Pao reported.

Meanwhile, in a separate accident last night, police have arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving after his minivan allegedly fatally struck a rider on an electric-powered bicycle, reported RTHK.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses.
