Don’t trust your gut when it comes to online hotel bookings

Who doesn’t book hotels online nowadays? Everyone we know does, as it’s convenient and easy to find great offers and discounts. Unfortunately, crappy booking sites have given the industry a bad rep.

The Consumer Council notes much more complaints this year regarding online hotel bookings false marketing. Some examples include sites masking hidden costs customers don’t know about until arrival or not being able to check-in at the time guaranteed.

One customer, surnamed Siu, booked a hotel in the mainland via one of the many online hotel booking sites, but upon arrival she was forced to pay for a room upgrade. That wasn’t the end of her bad trip, the room was not cleaned properly and she was only able to check-in at 9:00pm. And when she was late checking-out, the hotel charged her!

Word of advice: Do your due diligence when purchasing stuff online!
