Domestic helper saves Hong Kong employer from apparent suicide attempt

A domestic helper saved the life of her Hong Kong employer last week after interrupting his apparent suicide attempt, it has been reported.

According to Headline Daily (as translated by EJI), the 39-year-old domestic helper was alerted when she woke up to the smell of smoke at around 4am last Thursday.

She discovered her 49-year-old employer, surnamed So, semi-conscious next to a plate of burning charcoal in his room at On Yam Estate in Kwai Chung.

The helper notified the police, and So regained consciousness before being taken to Princess Margaret hospital in Lai Chi Kok.

It is reported that the employer was suffering from financial difficulties. The police do not suspect foul play.
