Dog pictured vomiting blood after Tuen Mun hit-and-run in stable condition

Thousands of netizens in Hong Kong have been cheering for a young mongrel dog’s recovery after photos of its injuries from a hit-and-run were uploaded to Facebook. At around 4pm yesterday, the dog was seen vomiting blood in San Wo Lane Playground, after reportedly being hit by a container truck.

A witness surnamed Leung told Apple Daily that she was walking in the area when she heard a strange noise, and turned around to see the dog lying in the middle of the road, immobile. “At first, I thought it was already dead,” Leung said.

Leung says that the dog then ran over to the seats at San Wo Lane Playground, leaving a blood trail of over 100 metres. She added that the dog was bleeding from its right eye, had broken blood vessels in its left eye, and was vomiting blood profusely.

The concerned citizen, who has two dogs of her own, went to her home nearby to pick up some vet-prescribed medicine and returned to help the injured pup stem its blood loss. Speaking to Coconuts Hong Kong today, a spokeswoman for the SPCA said the dog is a female mongrel, about one to two years of age. She was taken in SPCA custody yesterday, and underwent surgery for her head injuries following consent from her owner, who was found via microchip.

Netizens have been posting their wishes for the dog’s speedy recovery on various Facebook groups. One Hongkonger wrote, “Fur baby, there are lots of brothers and sisters cheering you on. You must get better!”, while another said “Stay strong! Add oil (keep going), you have to recover!”.

At the moment, the dog appears to be in stable condition, and remains at the SPCA Wan Chai Centre for treatment.
