Ding-Ding of Desire! Hong Kong’s first air-con tram could hit the tracks this summer

It’s the moment we’ve all been profusely sweating for – Hong Kong trams are about to get air conditioning! Well, one is at least.

Hong Kong Tramways has announced that a trial of the city’s first-ever air conditioned tram could be rolled out as early as this summer.

According to Apple Daily, if you’re lucky enough to catch a ride on this most desirable of “ding-ding”, the fare will remain exactly the same… for now.

Managing director of Hong Kong Tramways explained that only one tram will be pimped at first, as the whole power supply of the system would have to be enhanced to accommodate any more.

He added that whether or not this overhaul takes place will depend on feedback from customers.

Note to self: If you happen to find yourself on a air-conditioned tram this summer, be sure to tell the driver what a pleasant journey you’ve had and how your faith in trams has most definitely been restored!

If air conditioning is rolled out across the whole system, however, expect the dirt-cheap fares to go up a little.

Don’t expect to get to your destination any quicker than next week though. That’s not going to change any time soon.
