It’s hard to believe, but less than a week after six mainland thieves were arrested at a Hong Kong gem show for stealing diamonds worth HKD1.5 million, it’s happened again, only this time they got away, and the diamonds were worth HKD20 million!
Has Mickey Mouse seriously taken leave from Disneyland to run security at these bashes?
The alarm was raised yesterday, right at the close of the final day of the International Jewellery Show at Wan Chai’s Convention and Exhibition Centre.
An eagle-eyed member of staff noticed a display cabinet had been left unlocked, and two diamonds of 47 and 15 carats had been removed. Awww, crap!
Police arrived on the scene but no arrests were made.
Last Monday, at the separate International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show at Asia World Expo, a group of six mainlanders were arrested for allegedly swapping two three-carat diamonds with fakes.
Apparently you don’t have to be that clever about it.
