The ever-outspoken daughter of Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung has given another interview to the press, this time claiming her dad is like a “robot” who rarely says “I love you”.
Chai Leung, the eldest daughter of CY and Regina Leung, also told Chinese language magazine East Week that she has never met a man “as competent, as hard working and self-disciplined” as her father.
Using one particular example to illustrate this fact, she described an occasion when she asked her father to stop working on his policy address late at night, to which he apparently responded with a blank stare before turning back to his work.
“I feel very glad and honourable that he became chief executive, but his way of life is too monotonous to me. It makes me feel he is like a robot,” she said.
Going on to explain how her father shows his love, Chai added, “He is a traditional Chinese man who would refrain from always saying ‘I love you’ as foreigners do, even though he cares much about me and my two siblings.”
Chai, who is a law student at the London School of Economics, hit the headlines numerous times last year for her controversial social media posts.
Discussing one instance in June last year when she posted photos of her cut wrists on Facebook with the caption “Will I bleed to death?”, the 23-year-old admitted to East Week that she was only trying to get her parents’ attention.
In October she also raised hell when thanking Hong Kong tax payers for funding her “beautiful shoes and dresses and clutches” at the height of the Occupy Central protests.
She also subsequently threatened to sue various media outlets, including Coconuts HK (because we broke the story!) for reporting on her comments.
In the latest interview, Chai is clearly keen to show readers she is not the one-dimensional spoilt brat many have assumed her to be.
“I want the public to know that this is the real me … I am a non-critical and very loyal person. I am as calm as my father, but am also as impatient as my mother.”
