Six months since the start of the mass sit-in, some pro-democracy protesters are returning to the former main camp.
Activists have set up a library and a small study corner outside the government headquarters reminiscent of the original ones on Harcourt Road.
Their expanding presence incited concerns in the chief executive that they will re-launch a second wave of protests.
CY’s message to them: bring it.
The chief executive delivered a speech this morning at an investment forum, asserting that the city is ready should pro-democracy supporters stage new action, reports Reuters.
“The Hong Kong government as always maintains its preparedness but I can say that the public, if ‘Occupy’ happens again, will not be sympathetic,” the chief executive cautioned.
Leung also commended the Beijing government for trusting the Hong Kong authorities to handle the Occupy movement alone, reports the SCMP.
“The Hong Kong garrison of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army was never called out from their barracks. This was a reassuring sign, on the part of the central government of the faith and confidence in the Hong Kong government and its police force.”
As long as CY’s reassured that’s all that matters.
