We’re not sure why the number of animal abuse cases have been on the rise in Hong Kong in recent years, but we certainly hope it isn’t becoming a trend.
Yesterday evening, a dead monkey was found at a rubbish collection station in Pak Tin Village with its arms and legs chopped off.
A female resident who walked by saw the monkey’s body lying on the ground and called the police and animal department for help. However, as she had to rush off to an appointment, she only quickly snapped a picture and left before the authorities reached the scene.
Strangely, the monkey’s body was nowhere to be found when the police arrived – it’s possible that the person who attacked the monkey may have disposed the body elsewhere to avoid getting caught. Afterall, those convicted of cruelty to animals can be fined up to HK$200,000 and imprisoned for three years.
Pak Tin Village is near Kam Shan Country Park, aka “Monkey Mountain”, it’s the village’s first case of monkey abuse.
