Crash preventive system to be tested on Hong Kong’s public buses

A crash preventive system called Mobileye costing about HK$10,000 each will soon be road tested on three buses of New World First Bus and Citybus, reports the SCMP.

The system is a camera with a small display screen which can warn drivers when cars are too close in front or if there are pedestrians or cyclists too near the bus. It can also warn drivers when they are speeding as well as when they don’t signal when switching lanes.

The data will also be logged so that the driver’s driving behaviour and habits can be analysed.

Currently in Hong Kong two taxis, 10 minibuses, and one school bus have Mobileye installed. Some BMW and General Motors cars in the city already have Mobileye fitted in during production.
