Domestic workers will be able to take a free COVID-19 test at popular gathering spots on their days off this and next Sunday, the government announced.

Mobile specimen collection stations will be set up on Chater Road in Central, near Victoria Park in Causeway Bay, and outside Lai Chi Kok Park on Mar. 14 and 21, the Labor Department said Monday night.

The announcement follows the government’s promise last month to step up free testing services for groups including domestic workers, construction site workers and security guards, an effort to keep COVID-19 case numbers low.

Domestic workers will need to make an online booking before taking the free COVID-19 test. Those who test negative will be notified via SMS, and positive cases will be referred to health authorities for follow up.

New daily infections have hovered in the low double digits in recent days. On Tuesday, the city recorded 21 new cases, eight of which are locally transmitted.

A lockdown of a building in Tsim Sha Tsui Monday night, where residents were not allowed to leave until results for compulsory testing were returned, yielded no cases, authorities said the next morning.
