Court hears gruesome details in case of woman killed with an electric drill

Details of the horrific injuries suffered by a woman allegedly murdered by her boyfriend with an electric drill emerged today in court.

According to a report on the hearing by the SCMP, 25-year-old Andrea Bayr was found to have a hole in the right side of her face, among other injuries, with part of a drill bit sticking out.

Bayr was allegedly killed by her security guard boyfriend Safdar Husnain in the early hours of March 29, 2016 at a construction site in Tuen Mun.

The defendant, who was 27 years-old at the time of his arrest, has denied the charge of murder and is now on trial at the High Court.

The court heard police were called to the scene after receiving a call from a long-time friend of Husnain at about 2.17am, the newspaper reported.

After arriving and meeting the friend, who was nearby, officers initially searched a green container used as the construction site’s makeshift office, finding a bloodstained plastic bag but no people.

Drawn by a noise, the officers found Husnain and Bayr sitting nearby on the ground on the ramp of a footbridge.

The court heard that the defendant, who was shirtless and barefoot, then suddenly started to hit Bayr with an electric drill before being pinned to the ground by officers, the SCMP reported, adding Husnain kept saying “sorry” while being restrained.

Rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital, Bayr was found dead on arrival, with an autopsy finding she sustained multiple injuries including significant injuries to her head and neck, which a forensic expert said were sufficient to cause her death, the newspaper wrote.

Officers found three plastic bags containing 0.82 grams of Ice in the office. Tests also revealed Bayr’s blood, stomach and urine contained the drug.

A previous report by the Sun HK reported Bayr was the daughter of an Austrian father and Filipina mother, while Husnain’s nationality has been reported as Pakistani.
