Couple fined for abusing doctor with swear words

A couple were fined HK$1,000 each for swearing at a doctor on duty at the Tuen Mun hospital. They were angry about waiting nearly two hours at the emergency room for their newborn daughter to be seen on April 18 last year. The two were both charged with using offensive language in a hospital, which is punishable by law.

Wong, 31, who has two daughters with his live-in girlfriend Chow, 21, is a driver who earns HK$8,000 a month. According to witnesses, Wong yelled at the doctor: “you xxxx have made me angry. You want me to calm down? Let me try and give you a beating!” and also “You police only have 30,000 men. I can also call up my men. It’s none of your business here.” Chow, his girlfriend, said: “What kind of doctor are you? Do you have any education? Your education is shit, and you have no doctors’ ethics!”

The doctor on duty, Law, said that he had a large number of patients lined up as the other doctor on duty was busy on an emergency rescue. He also said he felt scared by the couple’s behaviour.
