In a welcome spot of good news, health officials announced no new cases of COVID-19 at their daily press briefing on the outbreak on Tuesday, and said that the number of Hongkongers who have recovered from the illness and been discharged from hospital is up to 37.

Dr. Linda Yu Wai-ling, executive manager of the Hospital Authority, said that city’s 49th confirmed case, a 37-year-old male, has been discharged from hospital. The total number of infections, meanwhile, held steady today at 101 after officials confirmed last night that the 63-year-old brother of case 85 had contracted the coronavirus.

However, things weren’t all rosy. Two cases are still in critical condition: the 70th and 99th confirmed patients.

Case 99, a 76-year-old woman from Cheung Sha Wan was only diagnosed on Sunday. Her lung CT scans showed a large amount of so-called “ground glass” opacity, which indicates blockages. She has had a tube inserted down her trachea since last night to maintain an open airway, and is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

Meanwhile, three other patients are currently in serious condition, while the rest are stable.
