Construction company fined HKD65,000 for safety violation resulting in 2012 employee death

On Wednesday, Kuen Kee Construction Co Ltd was fined all of HKD65,000 for a safety violation that led to the death of a construction worker in 2012.

The man was rigging and lifting a precast building façade at a construction site when the façade fell over and struck him, killing the employee. The incident occurred in Tseung Kwan O on Feb. 12, 2012, according to a government press release.

The labour department consequently launched the prosecution case, which ultimately found the company guilty of violating the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance.

The fine was given at the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts.
