Pound for Pound

We just can’t say no to “Asian/Western fusion street-food”, and Sheung Wan’s too-cool-for-school third-gen eatery Mrs. Pound is taking full advantage of our weakness. Located in a fake stamp shop on Pound Lane, the restaurant’s backstory claims that it was the hiding spot of Mr. Ming and Mrs. Pound, two forbidden lovers from different ends of the world who first met in the 1950s. Don’t buy the story? You can still savour the innovative dishes, from the expectedly aromatic Spicy Thai Pesto Linguini, to the surprising Mac and Cheese Chili Crab, and the succulent Drunken Porn Neck Watermelon Salad. Pound away at these tasty treats, people.

12pm -2:30pm (lunch), 5pm – 12am (dinner) (Monday-Friday), 12pm – 12am (Saturday-Sunday). Mrs. Pound, 6 Pound Lane, Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan (walk-ins only).

Aloha Mahalo!

The team behind the famous Honi Honi Cocktail Bar & Lounge is back with its latest immersive venture, Mahalo Tiki Lounge. In the same vein as its Central counterpart, Mahalo mixes tropical Polynesian culture with chic retro vibes via a range of fresh and fruity Tiki cocktails, such as the rum-based “Polynesian Love” (HKD120) and the tequila-done-tropical “Tahiti Chicks” (HKD130). Save for its stunning 29th floor view of the city, the exotically decorated lounge will teleport you to 1970s Hawaii.

5pm – 2am, Monday-Sunday, Mahalo Tiki Lounge, 29/F, QRE Plaza, 202 Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai (+852) 2488-8750.

Taste of Bali

Hong Kong foodies are famous for getting tired of one cuisine after another, so the opening of TRi, the city’s first contemporary Balinese restaurant, is nothing short of a gastronomic revolution. With an emphasis on the island’s traditions and spirituality, the Repulse Bay eatery will bring both fresh and familiar flavours to Hongkongers with a menu featuring Duck Betutu (roast duck), Iga Sapi (short ribs) and Coral Trout Red Kare. To fully pay tribute to its muse, 100 percent of the restaurant’s decorations, including its bamboo interior, are sourced directly from Bali.

6:30-11pm Wednesday-Friday, brunch sessions at 11am-1pm and 1pm to 3pm, dinner from 6pm-11pm Saturday-Sunday.
TRi, Shop 302, 3/F, The Pulse, 28 Beach Road, Repulse Bay (+852) 2515-0577.

 Hidden Secret

Proving that there’s no such thing as an overabundance of Japanese restaurants, the brothers behind classic Indonesian eatery IR1968 have opened up Ura, an “off-the-beaten-path” joint serving both traditional Japanese cuisine and Western-inspired dishes. Named after the Japanese word for “hidden”, Ura imports ingredients straight from Osaka to its inconspicuously located hub on the second floor of The Wellington. Intriguing dishes include the Tuna Akami Cutlet Sandwich with Onion Rings from Awaji Island (HKD168) and the Spicy Cod Roe Cheese Toast (HKD78). A list of limited edition whiskies and Japanese cocktails and sake is also available, because there’s no better way to understand a culture than by drinking its booze.
