A middle school track and field coach was sentenced to two years behind bars on Friday after he fondled the breasts and genitals of a 14-year-old student in 2019 and 2020, according to a Sing Tao Daily report.
Yang King-hung, 33, was earlier convicted of four counts of indecent assault.
The District Court heard that from July 2019 to August 2020, the defendant sexually assaulted the student four times during training trips in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Tokyo, under the pretext of giving her a massage to help with her injuries.
During the trips, he allegedly used his penis to touch her genitals, fondled her breasts and forcefully kissed her.
District Judge Ernest Lin pointed out that the defendant took advantage of the student’s trust.
The judge said the defendant’s psychological report noted that he had low self-esteem, a strong sense of inadequacy and difficulties developing relationships with mature women.
But Lin said the defendant’s insistence that what he did were just things that ordinary couples would do showed his lack of remorse.
He was arrested on Nov. 12, 2020.
The judge said that given the severity of the case, the defendant needed a deterrent penalty and handed him two years in prison.
