CityU’s 900-sq-m sports centre roof collapses, at least 3 people injured

At least three people have been injured after the 900-square-metre roof of CityU’s Hu Fu Kuang Sports Centre suddenly collapsed earlier today.

A student surnamed Ting told Apple Daily that she and her friends were on their way to the swimming pool at around 2:30pm when they heard a loud noise, “like an earthquake”, and saw “a lot of smoke”.

Ting says university staff members began came out of the building shouting, “Run away! Run away!”

Ting and her friends then took shelter in the canteen as the roof collapsed, where they could reportedly “see the [sports centre] benches” through the rubble.

Headline Daily reports that three people were injured, one of whom was rushed to Caritas Medical Centre.

A spokesperson for CityU told reporters at Apple Daily and Headline Daily that the university is investigating the matter.
