Superstar actor and Hong Kong’s favorite nice guy Chow Yun-fat had to be taken to hospital after being hit in the head with a bottle while filming a fight scene today — but not before finishing the take like a total champ.

Video circulating online shows Chow, 63, affectionately known to Hongkongers to as “Brother Fat,” clutching the top of his head and asking the crew for a bandaid and if there’s a first aid person on set.

The incident occurred on the set of Anthony Pun’s new film — whose Chinese title translates to “Sunshine Years” — where Chow was filming a scene with fellow actor Wong Tak-bun.

Speaking to on.cc this afternoon, Wong said that the scene in question called for him to chase Chow while swinging a bottle.

“Then I swung my arm with the bottle in my hand and it hit Brother Fat on the forehead,” Wong recalled. “Because he’s so disciplined, he carried on with the scene, and because the director didn’t yell cut, I also carried on acting. After they yelled cut, we saw he was bleeding and that was when we realized he was hurt. I felt so awful! At the time I didn’t know anything was wrong.”

Apple Daily spoke to Chow’s wife and manager, Jasmine Chan, who was also on set and can be seen in the video.

“Of course I got scared!” she said. “He was bleeding a lot, and at the time I had to pretend to be calm, because I didn’t want to make everyone worried.”

Fortunately the damage wasn’t too serious — two hours at the hospital and five stitches later, Chow was back at the studio for a late lunch and more filming.

The newspaper reports he will need to go to hospital every day to have the wound cleaned until the stitches are removed. (Or maybe the hospital staff just wanted an excuse to hang out with Chow Yun-fat as much as possible.)
