Chinese weddings demand HK$2000 for red packet

If you are a 20- or 30-something, you probably have to give up a pretty sizable chunk of your hard earned cash for red packets to gift at your friends weddings. With hotel banquets rising at 10 to 15 percent a year in costs, it’s no wonder why so many young couples can’t afford to have a wedding, or need their parents help with finances

But what’s this? Weddings are now demanding HK$2,000 in cash on their invitations?! A wedding invitation designed as a concert ticket has gone viral on discussion forums, which demanded “HK$2000 CASH” on the invitation. Some young people complained about being made broke by all these weddings — as many as four a month — that they have to attend. And sadly, if you are a true friend, declining to attend is not an option!
