The Chinese Arts and Crafts chain said that they no long sell elephant ivory, but only mammoth tusk, though did not elaborate further. With public pressure mounting, the chain store may have caved to the pressure and discontinued ivory sale.
However, at a public protest by 20 pupils and parents from Clearwater Bay School, students and parents expressed doubt over whether the chain has truly discontinued ivory, while others said that mammoth tusks can fuel demand for ivory products. Mammoths are extinct, but their tusks are preserved in the tundra in places such as Siberia, where it is often dug up.
