China is expats No 1 destination choice, HK loses out

Hong Kong may be known as Asia’s financial hub, but China has outperformed Hong Kong in a recent survey conducted by HSBC.

According to the HSBC survey, on purely economic conditions for expats, China is ranked first, with Switzerland at second.

Hong Kong ranked 19 in terms of attractiveness in economic conditions, and dropped six places overall to 10th this year.

The report reveals that expats are moving to China mainly because of better job opportunities. China also offers a higher quality of life, due to the comparatively inexpensive cost of living, expats tend to choose China over Hong Kong.

Hong Kong however, beat the mainland on core matters like childcare, healthcare, entertainment and work culture.
