China ‘blocks’ Occupy Central Hong Kong posts on Instagram

While the Hong Kong government insisted yesterday that it will not need the PLA’s help to quell the ongoing pro-democracy protests, it seems China is helping itself in a different way, by blocking social media reports of the unrest in the mainland.

The most notable censor comes via Instagram, which was one of the rare three social media outlets that previously seemed to have avoided the prying eye.

As images under #OccupyCentral started flooding in, however, it seems China to have pulled the plug, with many netizens complaining they could not access the updates.

We guess that’s exactly the sort of thing Hongkongers are fighting against.
