Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung’s daughter’s purported Facebook page seems to have been closed in the wake of some very controversial comments she made on it yesterday.
Before we go any further, we should point out that we have not been able to verify directly from Chai Yan Leung that the Facebook page in question is definitely hers.
However, both Mainstream Hong Kong newspapers the South China Morning Post and the Standard have reported on the page as being hers previously.
More tellingly, Chai Yan Leung’s mother Regina Leung Tong Ching-yee also responded publicly to reporting on an alleged self-harm incident shared on the purported Facebook page of her daughter in July.
From the South China Morning Post on July 4, 2014:
“The chief executive’s wife has criticised the media for its coverage of an online post by her daughter that depicted a slashed wrist, and urged it to stop reporting on her situation.”
Last night Coconuts Hong Kong reported on a Facebook post on the page on the page that said:
“This is actually a beautiful necklace bought at Lane Crawford (yes- funded by all you HK taxpayers!! So are all my beautiful shoes and dresses and clutches!! Thank you so much!!!!)Actually maybe I shouldn’t say ‘all you’- since most of you here are probably unemployed hence have all this time obsessed with bombarding me with messages.”

Today the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/chaiyan.leung is gone.

Hongkongers are protesting en masse demanding that CY Leung resign and universal suffrage be implemented in the Special Administrative Region of China.
Besides protesting for democracy, many are also unhappy with economic inequality and rising costs of living in Hong Kong.
