A party room is temporarily suspending their operations after CCTV footage of couples getting intimate leaked online.

The owner, Wong, told local media on Tuesday that a security camera is installed in the Yau Ma Tei party room and it did capture the scenes in question.

But she denied sharing the clips, some of which involved nudity, online. She told Apple Daily that her boyfriend and his friend were fighting about money, and it was his friend who circulated the footage as revenge.

Earlier, her boyfriend, surnamed Lam, had reportedly sent the videos to his friends via WhatsApp for a laugh.

Wong emphasized that the security camera is in clear view and that customers would have known that the room was CCTV monitored. A laminated sign in the room also states that CCTV is in operation.

“We’ve been framed. We really have not installed a hidden camera,” Wong said.

According to screenshots posted to local forum LIHKG, somebody had created an Instagram account with photos of Lam and screenshots of WhatsApp conversations with him. The page also disclosed his full name, and publicized information about the party room including address and phone number.

It accused Lam of secretly filming couples and sharing them with friends as a joke. “Let’s all call the police to report [Lam],” the Instagram bio said.

One caption on the account read: “Everybody take a look at this phone number and [if you have] previously gone to this party room… tell all your friends so they don’t become victims.”

At least four sets of videos involving four couples were leaked. One man told Apple Daily that he found out he was in one of the clips when a friend sent the video to him.

According to local media reports, the party room was offering attractive discounts to customers after it reopened following the lifting of coronavirus restrictions. The room can accommodate two to six people, and offers board games, darts and a Nintendo Switch console.

The party room shut this week and will cease operations for about one or two months. Its social media pages have been removed.

Police are investigating the incident. According to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, unauthorized filming and the sharing of the relevant videos constitutes a serious offence punishable by a fine of up to HK$50,000 (US$6,450) and two years in jail.
