Cathay Pacific pilot arrested for trying to take knives on Hong Kong flight

Flight crews pass through airport checks more often than anyone. You’d think they’d know what you can and can’t bring in your carry on. But then there’s danger in assuming.

A Cathay Pacific flight from London to Hong Kong was delayed on Saturday after a member of the flight crew tried to take knives into the cabin in his hand luggage. D’oh!

The flight crew member, who has been identified as the pilot – of all people – was arrested in the staff search area by the London Metropolitan police an hour before the scheduled flight.

In a statement, Cathay Pacific confirmed the delay of flight CX254 was due to a “crew-related incident concerning some items found in the pilot’s hand luggage.”

However, they were quick to point out that none of the 262 were at any risk. They have excellent crystal balls at Cathay, clearly.

The pilot was taken into custody and later bailed.

Cathay wasn’t able to call in a relief crew, so passengers had to wait overnight while the flight was rescheduled to Sunday afternoon.
