Thieves stole a Lexus, a Mercedes and a Toyota worth around HKD1 million in the early hours of yesterday morning after prising open a safe and taking the keys from the car park in an apartment block.
CCTV footage shows that the vehicles were pinched from the ground floor car park of Yau Luen Apartments on Tai Po Road at about 3:30am while the 44-year-old security guard was on the mezzanine floor.
The SCMP reports that the guard only noticed the theft when he returned to the ground floor two hours later and found the safe containing the keys wide open and the cars missing.
HKD3,000 in cash was also taken from the safe. There was no barrier arm at the car park.
Police say all the thieves were “Chinese”. One was said to be wearing a blue shirt and carrying a shoulder bag (aka a man bag); one was wearing a glasses, a black vest and black trousers, and the third was wearing a cap and a long-sleeved white shirt.
Sham Shui Po police are investigating but no arrests have yet been made.
