Cannon balls to cultural halls – new book tells the story of Hong Kong’s Asia Society

If you’ve ever been to the the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, you’ll know what a cool, modern and tranquil cultural hub it is. But do you know about its less than tranquil past as a Former Explosives Magazine Compound of the old Victoria Barracks?

Those who are interested in the campus’s rich historical past and its magical transformation can now find out more through the Society’s newly launched book, Heritage Revealed.

The publication takes readers on an insightful journey exploring the historical photographs and stories that connect the significant past and the inspiring present of the former British military building.

Amusingly, Asia Society Hong Kong Executive Director, Alice Mong, said, “Those former military magazines are now literally exploding with ideas and creativity!”

Sorry. We know times are changing, but we still balk at the idea of using “literally” in a non-literal sense.

But… if you’re looking for a gift, something to put on your coffee table or perhaps you’re just curious about the tales behind one of Hong Kong’s most iconic sites, the book is now available at the Asia Society Store (9 Justice Drive, Admiralty).

There’s also always a whole bunch of cool stuff going on there, so check out the website and make a day of it.
