Canines in Capes: Doggie superheroes called to Stanley Plaza PAWS by the Sea

Given the recent nasty news stories of dog abuse, Hong Kong definitely needs to make its pups feel like the stars they are. Going with the theme of “Doggie Hero”, the fourth anniversary of Stanley Plaza PAWS by the Sea is calling on owners and their dogs to dress up as superheroes for the Doggie Hero Challenge. Good luck getting your mutt in underpants over Lycra leggings!

On Sept. 21, 27 and 28, Stanley Plaza Amphitheatre will be a frenzy of face licking and bum sniffing for the annual celebration of National Dog Week, designed to encourage kindness towards animals and responsibility in pet ownership. All proceeds raised will go towards the Hong Kong Seeing Eye Dog Services (HKSEDS).

A series of challenges, contests and games will be held over the three days, including a Doggie Guinness World Records Attempt for the “most dogs balancing a treat on the nose”. We’re not sure what to make of this, but we’re leaning towards: the organisers must be bark raving mad!

Nevertheless, and for just HKD20 a pop, cold dog beers (WTF?), dog sorbets and Doggie Hero sunglasses will be up for grabs, certain to make the show amusing at the very least.

So paws for a second and swing by and give your best friend some tummy rubs and treats if he’s having a ruff day.

Okay, we’re out of dog puns now.
