Police recently arrested seven schoolboys in relation to a series of video cameras found in the changing rooms and classrooms of a prestigious Hong Kong secondary school, local media reported today.

On March 24, a member of staff at St. Stephen’s College in Stanley called police to say he’d found a number of cameras secretly installed inside several changing rooms — both male and female — and classrooms around campus, Apple Daily reports. Police sources told the SCMP that the cameras had been on site for “at least three months”.

Officers arrested a male student on the same day, and six other male students within the next three days in suspicion of accessing a computer with criminal or dishonest intent, the maximum penalty for which is five years’ imprisonment. All suspects are between the ages of 15 and 16.

The teens were released on bail and are required to report to police later this month.

On March 28, the school sent a letter to pupils’ parents stating that “several students from the College were involved in serious misconduct regarding surreptitious videography” and emphasised that all students involved in the matter had been suspended.

A police investigation is underway. Staff at the school, which is currently closed for holidays, declined to comment when approached by Apple Daily reporters.

Founded in 1903, St Stephen’s is a Christian direct-subsidy scheme school, and the largest secondary school in Hong Kong.
