The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service desperately needs B-positive and O-positive blood, as their supplies of those types have been severely depleted and require urgent replenishment.
In recent weeks, only about 800 blood donors have shown up every day, well below the daily target of 1,100 people – and the weak supply means that hospitals can’t meet demand.
The Red Cross believes that the crappy weather and the exam period for local students has caused the unusually low turnout for blood donors – apparently we can’t be bothered putting on a pair of wellies or not thinking about ourselves for a second to help members of our community in need. Sounds about right.
The Red Cross urges everyone, but particularly people with B-positive and O-positive blood (if you indeed know), to do a good deed (and get a free cookie) by donating just a little bit of your life force.
For the list of donation centres and their opening hours, check out this website or call 2710 1234. You can also check to see if you’re fit to donate blood by taking this handy online quiz.
