Cage-home dwellers worst than they were 25 years ago

Unbelievably, cage homes have multiplied and close to 70 percent of the 1,000 cage homes on record have been recently constructed, according to the NGO Soco. The true number is likely far more.

This year’s Hong Kong ArtWalk, to be held on March 12, will bring awareness to cage homes with eight shocking photos of cage homes titled Living at Limit, and an installation that recreates a cage home at The Space gallery. Cage home dwellers are put off applying for public housing since wait lists can reach a decade or more, despite the hazardous conditions of cage homes.
