Bye bye Lantau: Hong Kong Disneyland set to double in size!

Just when we think the Happiest Place in Hong Kong can’t get any happier, we hear it’s going to double in size.

ERROR. TOO. MUCH. HAPPINESS.

Man of the moment, Financial Secretary and Budget Bro John Tsang announced yesterday that the scale of Disneyland’s second-phase development will likely be a whopping 60 hectares, about the same size as the current park.

Whether this will make Hong Kong Disneyland doubly hectic or half as busy will no doubt become clear in due course.

According to the management of Disneyland Hong Kong, the theme park has attracted 50 million visitors since opening in 2005, bringing in HKD5.5 billion last year alone.

Further discussions about the attraction – which is 52 percent Hong Kong-owned and 48 percent Disney-owned – are set to be held between the government and Walt Disney (the company, not the ghost of the actual late American cartoonist) soon.
