Homesick Londoners, transport enthusiasts and people looking for an alternative to the “party tram”, rejoice!
A group of Hong Kong “bus fans” have purchased a pair of classic red London Routemaster buses for the tune of HKD800,000 and set up their very own charter bus company called “Antelope Omnibus“.
The retired buses, which date back 50 to 60 years ago, have been returned to spanking new condition by their five co-owners, who are hoping to attract fellow bus enthusiasts looking for a photo op, tour groups, and everyone in between as early as next month.
One of the owners, named Anson, told Oriental Daily that the vintage buses, which are “long type” RML2470s, have no rear doors – just like the original “hop-on, hop-off” Routemaster that debuted on the British capital’s streets in 1956.
Anson explained that he wanted to buy the bus as it seemed like a “pity” that no such vehicles were to be found in a former British colony.
While Oriental Daily reports that the group can’t drive the bus on Hong Kong roads just yet due to “licence issues”, the bus buffs seem hopeful that the refurbished beauties will traverse the Fragrant Harbour yet.
