A bus driver who hit and killed a pedestrian two years ago experienced a bout of nausea prior to the crash, sickness he blamed on a McDonald’s burger he’d eaten for breakfast, a court heard today.
Leung Wai-kong, a KMB bus driver, was driving bus route 1A about 6am on September 29 when he crashed into 26-year-old Lam Bo-bo, who died from multiple injuries from the trauma.
He was subsequently arrested for dangerous driving causing death, an offence which carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence.
At a hearing today at the District Court in Wan Chai, the court heard responders to the accident found the front of bus damaged and vomit on the inside of the windscreen, reported Apple Daily, which covered the case.
Giving evidence today, police officer who attended the scene said Leung appeared sick and was given a breath test for alcohol, which was negative.
The bus driver had claimed “he didn’t know what happened”.
He also told officer that he had felt sick after eating a burger with cheese from McDonald’s an hour before the crash and added that he had a food allergy.
Examining, the defense lawyer questioned the officer about why he had not included Leung’s mention of the burger, and his sickness, in his police report.
The officer explained that he was “in a hurry” and may have forgotten to write it down.

After the accident, Leung leaned on the left door and fainted and two passengers came forward and moved him to a seat, the court heard.
