Who knew Hongkongers were so adept at arts and crafts?
First came the Zhang Dejiang pavement-gluing debacle, then the shiny new bins with smaller mouths, and now we’ve got a presumably busted-up bus, bandaged up with masking tape.
Photos of the KMB double-decker bus surfaced on Facebook earlier today after a netizen spotted it trundling along in Mong Kok looking a little worse for wear.
According to Oriental Daily, the bus was driving the 72X route between Tai Po and Mong Kok, and had been taped shut as the left rear engine door couldn’t be closed properly.
And here we were, thinking it had been beaten up in its secret life as a Transformer.
Instead of getting a replacement bus to complete the route, apparently the bus driver simply carried out a little ad hoc auto repair, MacGyver style.
Afterwards, a netizen reported that the resourceful driver called for a different vehicle to drive the route, while the busted bus got repaired at KMB’s Tai Po depot.
Reactions ranged from the nonplussed (“What’s the funny part?” one deadpanned), to the faux-helpful:

“I have a bandage, can I help?”
One commenter joked, “An engineer’s three treasures: sticky tape, WD40, and glue.”
Personally, we’re pretty impressed the driver managed to hold it together (both literally and figuratively), but we’re not totally sure we’d get on that bus, even if it’s being piloted by a master of bricolage.
