As if the prospect of things falling on you from great heights wasn’t already bad enough in Hong Kong, imagine if all the things that could come tumbling down from 50 stories up were on fire.

Such was the case yesterday, when firefighters put out a flat fire at a housing estate in Ma On Shan, but not before a flaming air conditioning unit fell from several stories up and came crashing to the ground below.

According to Apple Daily, emergency services received a call from residents living on the Yiu On Estate in Ma On Shan just after 10:30am saying that one of the apartments in the complex was on fire.

About 100 residents had to be evacuated from the Yiu Him House, the building where the flat fire was, and residents living in a neighboring housing estate in Ma On Shan looked on in horror as a burning air conditioning unit fell from the building and landed on the ground below.

Firefighters managed to put out the flames in about 30 minutes, and no one was injured in the blaze. Fire services are still looking into what caused the fire.

According to Ming Pao, the flat was on the 18th floor and belonged to a family of three who were out at the time of the fire.
