The immigration department announced in an emailed statement that 15 Hong Kong residents remain missing in Nepal as of 11am today in the wake of a devastating earthquake that has killed over 4,400.
According to the department, the government has received requests for help for 41 Hongkongers in Nepal.
Out of the 41 people, 26 have been contacted, received assistance and are in a safe place.
The remaining 15 people have not yet been in contact with their families back home.
Earlier, the families of four young Hong Kong women aged between 25 and 28 appealed for help to find the group, reported the SCMP.
The women, three of which are HKU med students and one of which is a lawyer, have now been in touch with their families, the immigration department said.
Three immigration officers arrived in Nepal this morning and have set up a help counter at the Kathmandu airport.
They are working closely with the local embassy to find missing Hongkongers and to help others return home as soon as possible.
Hong Kong residents that need help can call the immigration department’s 24-hour hotline at (+852) 1868.
