An elderly man died after being run over by a garbage truck as he attempted to cross a road with the aid of a walker in Hong Kong’s Tsuen Wan area yesterday.

HK01 reports that the incident happened at about 1pm, when an 81-year-old man surnamed Yeung was crossing the road near the junction between Tsuen Wan Market Street and Tai Ho Road.

The garbage truck, driven by a 62-year-old man surnamed Law, moved through the intersection as soon as the light turned green, running over Yeung, who Law said he failed to see.

Yeung’s head was crushed by the front right wheel of the truck, according to Apple Daily.

He was declared dead at the scene, and Law was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He is currently being detained for further questioning, though no formal charges have yet been filed, the Police Public Relations Bureau told Coconuts HK.
