Booster shots for children in short supply

After the death of two young children the booster shot of the vaccine against pneumococcal infection has been in super short supply.

Despite the government subsidising one dose of the vaccine known as Valent-13 to children aged two to five, media reports say clinics have been jacking up prices for the vaccines as worried parents flock to get their children the shots as soon as possible, as supply is said to be limited.

Next Media interviewed parents and found some paid around HK$1,800, more than eight times the usual price.

However, according to the RTHK, a working group says there is no evidence the latest vaccine is more effective than the previous vaccines given to children.

I guess as a parent, any price is worth it for a peace of mind!
