Hong Kong’s ever-fabulous Lunar New Year’s fireworks display will boom, bang and sizzle into action tomorrow at 8pm.
No expense has been spared, with 23,888 shells to be fired from three barges in Victoria Harbour over 23 minutes (note the lucky numbers).
Tune in to RTHK4 (FM 97.6 to 98.9) for the synchronised muszak, and look out for the Chinese characters for “spring” in the first scene (marking the start of the New Year), “goat” in the second scene (apparently they have something to do with it) and the lucky number 8 with “harmony” in the seventh scene.
According to the organisers: “The fireworks display will reach its climax in the last scene with colourful fireworks moving across the sky from east to west, to be followed by the fast and rhythmic firing of shells in gorgeous colours for 30 seconds, celebrating the year with joy and blessings.”
Doesn’t that sound titillating?
You’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the action at Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-levels, Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and the Hung Hom Bypass. Roads along both sides of the harbour will be closed to traffic.
Kung hei fat choi!
