Body of missing student found on Big Wave Bay

The body of 20-year-old student Lee Hiu-kwan, who had been missing for nearly five days, washed ashore on Big Wave Bay in Shek O, according to Apple Daily.

Lee was found at approximately 7.14 this morning by surfers, who alerted the police and emergency services, who confirmed the woman was dead.

The body was identified by Lee’s family members, who filed the missing persons report on Jan. 14. According to the police report, Lee had gone missing after leaving her home in Shau Kei Wan on the afternoon of Jan. 13.

After her disappearance, police officers and fire fighters scoured the areas near Lee’s home, but only found a few of her personal effects on a hillside near Big Wave Bay.

Lee, who was due to take the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education exam in April, was feared to be suicidal from schoolwork-related stress and depression, and had reportedly told her friends she was going to jump off a cliff in Shek O.

If you are experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts, please call the Samaritans’ 24-hour hotline at (+852) 2896-0000 for help.
