Big Nap: Man loses HK$250,000 worth of gems snoozing in McDonald’s

During the typhoon, 57 year old, Mak, took shelter at Central’s 24-hour McDonald’s, only to awaken and find his suitcase of jewels stolen.

Since retirement, Mak has been selling his jades – an assortment of rings, bracelets, and necklaces – with a small brown suitcase. He doesn’t own a physical shop but would bring his case full of jewels to different areas in Hong Kong to sell.

Mak arrived at McDonald’s around midnight, dozed off and woke up around 6:00am, realising his suitcase of gems were stolen. When the police arrived, they replayed the CCTV footage and found a South Asian man had took off with Mak’s belongings.
