Ladies of Hong Kong beware, a British internet creep and self-proclaimed “pickup artist” is in Hong Kong and is currently filming himself trying to pick up unsuspecting Hong Kong women for his paid YouTube channel.
Nicholas Coakley, a British 28-year-old “travel vlogger” and all-around douchebag who goes by the name “Explorer Nick,” posts videos of himself traveling around Asia trying to bed local women — sometimes filming them without their consent, then posting them on his YouTube channel.
Coakley is in Hong Kong for two weeks, and has so far posted four videos featuring him going up to random women in Central and Causeway Bay and asking for their phone numbers, asking why Hong Kong women prefer foreign men (they do?), and sometimes saying “ni hao” to them and throwing in a few basic Mandarin phrases (wrong dialect, we speak Cantonese here, mate.)
In most of the videos, the women either ignore him, or talk to him out of — judging by their expressions — politeness. Some of the subjects are aware that Coakley is filming them with a GoPro.
In one of the videos filmed inside Central’s IFC Mall, he asks a woman out for coffee and asks her for her WeChat ID or phone number … in front of her boyfriend, who looks less than pleased.

After Coakley hands her his phone, she can be heard asking her boyfriend if he minds her giving him her number, to which he responds in Cantonese “I don’t know” and “you do whatever.” At one point in the video, he points out to her that Coakley is filming them.
In another video that also begins in IFC Mall, he approaches another random woman, says she sounds Spanish rather than Chinese, asks her if she knows ju jitsu (cause Asians!), asks her how many boyfriends she has had — she says she has been seeing her current boyfriend for five years — and then takes her on what he describes as a “mini-date.” After the two grab dinner, and later buy drinks at a 7-Eleven, the teaser video appears to suggest she accompanies him to his place.
In all the videos featured, he then encourages viewers to visit a website literally called “hongkonggirlseasy,” which ostensibly features clips of his dates with women from Hong Kong and “bonus access” to clips of him with women from other Asian countries like Taiwan and Japan. We didn’t pay to find out.
Coakley — who has a very small following of about 5,400 YouTube subscribers — was accompanied on his Hong Kong trip by mentor and partner-in-douchebaggery David Bond (real name David Campbell), who some Hongkongers might remember from this video in 2015 in which he and a friend “steal” a girl from a local Hong Kong guy.
You may have also seen the duo in Bangkok just two months ago, where a reporter from our sister site Coconuts Bangkok accompanied a young Thai woman to a police station when she went to complain about being videotaped surreptitiously.
The 2015 video set here in Hong Kong has been viewed more than a million times and at the time was reported on by local media outlets and blogs like Passion Times, which said that the video was done in a way to make the women of Hong Kong look like they are “exotic” and “submissive,” and highlighted “the patriarchal mentality of white Western men”

Bond and Coakley were most recently in Taiwan, and a number of Taiwanese media outlets reported that the women featured in the videos started posting on social media that they had not given their permission to be filmed for the videos, Taiwan News reports.
Coakley initially removed a number of videos from his recent Taiwan travels and apologized for hurting the people of Taiwan, insulting the people in his videos and for “trying to profit out of them with taiwangirlseasy.com.”
But two days later, the newspaper reported that he retracted his apology saying: “Taiwan is too much fun, and I want to enjoy myself here more. I think I let it get to me too much, anyway let’s go out and party!” He then posted more videos of himself attempting to pick up more Taiwanese women, jaywalking, and throwing litter on the streets.
