The US welcomed their 46th president, Joe Biden, on Wednesday—but according to the internet, it was a disgruntled Bernie Sanders and his wooly mittens that stole the show.

At the high-profile inauguration, the 79-year-old US senator was photographed sitting in a plastic chair, alone and his arms crossed, wearing an ash-colored parka and a surgical mask that looked concerningly crumpled.

Naturally, social media reacted. Pairing the picture with captions like “This could’ve been an email” and “Waiting for my mom to finish shopping,” Twitter turned the impatient-looking Sanders into an instant meme and photoshopped him into everything from subway trains to right on Santa’s lap.

The humor wasn’t lost on Hong Kong, where some decided to give Sanders a tour of their own.
