Club CUBIC, the self-declared “most prestigious club” in Macau, appears to have staunchly declared that nope, there are no boundaries to how tasteless one can make Halloween.
The nightclub will be hosting a “School Massacre” Halloween Party this Friday, during which partygoers will play some sort of Battle Royale-inspired game and kill each other until there’s only one left standing.
Here’s an example of CUBIC’s lame attempt at creating hype for the event: posting “evidence” that the club was built on the site of a school massacre (though we can’t really make out what those photos are supposed to be at all).
FYI, the chosen hashtag for the event is #SCHOOLMASSACRE. Excellent! Now, people looking for information on actual school massacres will also find helpful Tweets and Facebook posts from people partying like it’s 1999 at Columbine.
Spencer Li, a professor at the University of Macau who studies mass murders in mainland China, told the SCMP that “most of the perpetrators of mass murders have mental problems and this [event] could work as a motivating effect”. Now, that is scary.
Here’s the promo video the club made for the party:

Club CUBIC’s senior marketing executive, Shirley Shao, said that the “intention is to celebrate this festival”, and that “it has nothing to do with current affairs”.
Well, keeping up on current affairs just a little bit might have prevented this disastrous marketing effort.
A school shooting on Friday in Washington, USA left two teenagers, including the gunman, dead after a student opened fire in his high school cafeteria.
On Dec. 14 2012, a man stabbed 22 children and an elderly woman at a primary school in Henan, China.
The same day, a man shot and killed 20 small children and six staff members at an elementary school in Connecticut, USA.
