Two staff members from a Tsim Sha Tsui beauty clinic are facing criminal charges after causing a client to fall into a coma.
The defendants, 51-year-old Yip Pui-ling, who runs the clinic, and 33-year-old Ye Liurong, were charged with possessing and using a Part One poison without a license at Kowloon City Court yesterday. Ye, who is a mainland Chinese beautician visiting Hong Kong on a two-way permit, was also charged with breaching the conditions of her stay.
The victim, a 55-year-old woman, is Yip’s older sister. The incident took place at a beauty clinic on 106 Austin Road on Monday afternoon, at around 2:30pm. The prosecution said in court that the 55-year-old was undergoing a facial slimming treatment when the defendants administered four shots of adrenaline to her face, rendering her comatose, HK01 reports.
The victim was rushed to the intensive care unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital in critical condition. She came out of her coma two days later, but still requires help breathing and remains in hospital, RTHK reports.
Police confiscated 14 tubes of suspected poison from the clinic, the contents of which are yet to be confirmed. Superintendent Chan Tsz-leung, assistant commander of the Yau Tsim district crime squad, told reporters that Ye had no previous experience conducting the procedure.
The case was adjourned until November 9 to allow for further police investigation. Yip has been released on HK$20,000 bail and ordered not to leave Hong Kong or contact her sister. Ye was refused bail.
