Baby girl becomes Hong Kong’s first child to die from flu

A 17-month-old baby girl died from the flu on Thursday night, becoming the first child to succumb to the disease in this outbreak.

She developed a high fever on Monday and was admitted to Tseung Kwan O Hospital on Wednesday evening.

After she experienced a heart attack, she was moved to United Christian Hospital’s ICU the following day.

She died that evening at 10:10pm, reports the SCMP.

Henry Yeung, president of the Doctors Union, said that children and the elderly are the most susceptible to the flu.

Children can get vaccinated starting from six months of age.

The death toll for this year’s influenza outbreak is now at 243.
