Award-winning classical guitarist gets an apology from Hong Kong Airlines

Internationally renowned classical performaer, René Izquierdo, found his guitar’s headstock broken after Hong Kong Airlines flight from Hong Kong to Taiwan.

Friend of the guitarist claims Izquierdo insisted on hand-carrying his instrument but was forced to check it in.

Although initial claims state that Hong Kong Airlines has refused to compensate Izquierdo properly for damages, the airline has now publicly apologised and claims to be seeking a solution with the Izquierdo  The spokesperson, claims that it is company policy for musical instruments to be checked-in, only if an additional flight ticket has been bought can they be brought on-board.

According to the SCMP, Izquierdo’s guitar is one of a kind, specially crafted by Spanish master guitar maker Antonia Marin Montero, who only makes a few instruments a year. Izquierdo has only had the guitar for a month.
